Did you know that across America there are more towns and counties named for General Francis Marion than for anyone else except for George Washington? It’s true! Did you know that in Washington, D.C., on South Carolina Avenue there is a park called Marion Park? That’s true, too! However, there is no statue or memorial anywhere in Washington, D.C., honoring this amazing patriot. In 2006, the President of the United States and all South Carolina congressmen supported and enacted a proposal to erect a memorial to General Marion. Now, all we need are funds. In order to get permission from the National Capital Memorial Advisory Commission to select a site for the statue, we need to raise $50,000.
