Swamp Fox Challenge

Dear Fellow Patriot,

We are the eighth grade students at TWO Academies at Dent Middle School in Richland School District Two, South Carolina. We are writing to issue you and your school the SWAMP FOX CHALLENGE.

Did you know that across America there are more towns and counties named for General Francis Marion than for anyone else except for George Washington? It’s true! Did you know that in Washington, D.C., on South Carolina Avenue there is a park called Marion Park? That’s true, too! However, there is no statue or memorial anywhere in Washington, D.C., honoring this amazing patriot. We hope to change that.

In 2006, the President of the United States and all South Carolina congressmen supported and enacted a proposal to erect a memorial to General Marion. Now, all we need are funds. In order to get permission from the National Capital Memorial Advisory Commission to select a site for the statue, we need to raise $50,000. At TWO Academies, we are issuing the SWAMP FOX CHALLENGE.

In April 2007, the South Carolina General Assembly passed a bill designating 27 February of every year as "General Francis Marion Memorial Day.” From now until February 27, 2011, TWO Academies challenges each student in our school and each student in South Carolina to contribute $1.00 to help give General Marion the respect he deserves.

We urge you, your faculty, and your students to accept the SWAMP FOX CHALLENGE and join General Marion’s new brigade! Please click here to donate, or send your school’s donation to -
